Canon updates entry-level DSLR with Rebel T5, updates PowerShot G1 X with Mark II

Canon EOS Rebel T5 DSLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm IS II LensJapan’s CP+ show has seen a number of new cameras launched this week, and today was Canon’s turn. It has launched a solid upgrade to its now retired Rebel T3 with the new Canon EOS Rebel T5 – a 3 fps shooter with 9 AF points. At 7 ounces, and $550 retail price, it should be popular when it ships in March. Canon has also fixed the issues that plagued its original super-compact with the new Canon PowerShot G1 X Mark II – featuring a sleeker design and faster AF. Field Test of the Sony RX100: Is it enough to make you ditch your DSLR?

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-RX100 Digital Camera (Black)After weeks of shooting in Alaska with a 3 pound Nikon D4, 8 pound telephoto lens, and 6 pounds of carbon fiber tripod, I was more than ready to review the new Sony Cybershot DSC-RX100. At 8-1/2 ounces, the Sony barely even registers on a travel scale. It is a little larger than my current favorite point and shoot, the Canon PowerShot S100, but certainly still qualifies as pocket-sized.
