Giving Raptors a Future – Photography with Last Chance Forever

In addition to all the great songbird photography we had during our Texas Hill Country photo safari we had a special treat when John Karger of Last Chance Forever, a raptor rehabilitation foundation, brought four magnificent animals to pose and even fly for us. As my friend know I’m very careful about any photography of captive animals. It’s easy for them to be mis-treated or bred for photography once money is involved. But Last Chance Forever works strictly with raptors they are trying to rehabilitate after some accident or mis-treatment (usually unintentional) by a well-meaning “pet” owner...

Showing off the Old West in Texas—One Antique at a Time

Regular readers know that I enjoy both HDR and black and white photography. So when our hosts at our recent Hill Country Photo Safari, Sharron and Larry Jay of BCNA, rolled out their fully restored antique chuckwagon I couldn’t resist combining them. To enhance the overall effect rather than use sunlight we lit the wagon with flashlights. Everyone had a lot of fun and got some great shots, but capturing the raw images only started my fun. Welcome to DPS 7-05. We recently returned from our 4th spring visit to South Texas after a great safari week with some very happy participants who got the bird photo opportunities they were hoping for and more.
