[David] Sigma 24-70, Another "Pro Value" Champ from Sigma

Hi David, I had the earlier version of this lens, but got rid of it as it was very prone to flare, even when the light source was outside the field of view. It nearly cost me some important images, but I spotted what was happening and was able to change to something else in time. Is the new version any different in this respect? Thanks, Tony

Tony -- I don't think I ever shot with Sigma's previous version, so I don't have anything to compare it with. Spec-wise, Sigma raves about improved coatings on the new version, which should help, but of course its easy to say stuff in specs.

Frankly, I found the Nikon 24-70 pretty susceptible to flare (surprisingly so) when I reviewed it, but maybe my expectations were too high. You might need to rent one, or take advantage of the pretty liberal return policy at B&H to try the Sigma?

Thanks, David. I'm in the UK, so no B&H, but may try to get a play with one. I went back to my 35-70 f2.8, but I occasionally find I need something wider. Tony
