Hello Forum,

Has anyone heard info regarding new camera (flagship) releases from Nikon?

I have been using my D2h for going on 4 years. An upgrade would be interesting to contemplate.

Best rumors I've seen are for a D300 & D3X "soonish", with the D3X maybe doing both a 1.1x & 1.5x multiplier (1.5x with DX lenses) and something like 22MP sensor.

Personally I'd love a "clean" 10fps/10 or more MP design similar to the intent of the 1D Mark III, but the whole idea of having 22MP when needed and the option of full-frame would be pretty cool--IF the noise is low enough that it creates really great images.--David

<Lighttrip posted asking about the Nikon sensor patent--Post got lost in server upgrade>

I looked at the Nikon "full color" sensor patent which has been referred to. First, it is a few years old, but more importantly it is really "new science" like Foveon started out, so from talking to other sensor designer/scientists they don't see it as being anything very useable any time soon without a lot of accompanying invention around the specialty microlenses needed.

But it'd be cool if it worked!--David

Thanks David,

Here is the Los Angeles area I am seeing D2X used cameras selling for 1200 to 1500 dollars. I looked at 4 of these cameras and each was perfect. Low shutter count, obviously the free upgrade, and the original owner was the seller in each circumstance. What do these folks know that we do not know?

My steady workhorse is still the D1X with the D2h pulling its weight with wedding work. (Battery being the only reason that I don't use the D1X at weddings).

I am struggling to keep up with the Cannon sport shooters in my motocross work. Even 8th graders with a cheap Cannon kit find a good image now and then.

Any one else heard any new rumors or possibly even fact regarding Nikon camera upgrades for us Pros?

Howdy Foley,

I am not considering changing brands at this stage of my career.

I would today, if starting over again, go with the Canon systems.

Hmmm What stage is that. You still have a long way to go.

What intrigues you about Canon now???

I kind of like um to.

My main reason is I don't need anymore pixels for what I do. However, high ISOs especially on the D2X are almost not usable. If Canon really does so much better at the high end that would mean alot to me.

Hi Rick - I was about to answer your post yesterday; I'm glad I waited. I got an email at 6AM from a photo buddy, with another site link to this Canon.

My thoughts . . .
1) your pics are amazing using a D2h and a D1X!

2) if you took all 4 of those D2Xs models you found, and assuming averaging $1350 each - you'd get all 4 for $5400. You'd still save $2600 over this one body and have your current 2 for backups! IMO, whoever stays "1 step behind the latest" wins in terms of practical tools for photography.

For my purposes a 20MB file size is too large for clients to upload to the web anyway - so by reducing them, there goes the 22MP. It's moot in practical terms, unless they're doing bus-bench ads or billboards. Also, curiously, the "previous beta" 1D Mark III was a 1.3 crop and 10fps. I notice this one is back to 5fps according to the "Crave" link above.

I need two bodies. $16-17k for 2 camera bodies?

I just love Annie Liebowitz. It's times like this I wish I were pals with Annie . . . I'd love to know if she's ordering 3 of them. Somehow I doubt it. I wonder what the market will be for this camera, and indeed for the "D3" if it comes out and matches or exceeds these specs.
