I will be shooting a wedding in June with a plus size bride.
I know a lot of tricks with lighting in the studio but in day light I could use some tips.I know the Basic things like standing
with weight on the back leg or turning to the camera at an angle,but any other tips would be great.She is very concerned about
how she will look,and at 300 plus she carries alot of the weight in her face,so simple photo shop will be difficult.I want to do all I can to make her happy with her images.

Don't use a wide angle lens, though people joke about needing that. They exagerate things off center.

123, Are you out there? I was out of town, but I have some ideas for you.

Where are you photographing her? Flowers? Alone or with groom?

123, I have been really busy and wondering where you have been. I have some tips for you. I am getting ready to go to Nashville to photograph and then to Kentucky for some sessions next week. I will post here for this topic next week while I am traveling. Come back and look for it. I would like to have photos for you, but not sure I will get the time.

Some of the shots I took from a high ladder,may have got too high on a few.Still have problems getting the flash right after the sun goes down..Bride still looks pasted on (that digital look)My flash was mounted on a light stand and used another speedlight as the commander (TTL)mode.......Has anyone out there ever had problems with the feeling going out of their fingers after a heavy week of shooting? I had a (very) long week with
a few big events,then realized I had numbness in my left thumb.
Its been 48 hours and no change.I know it sounds like Carpal tunnel but I'm hoping it will go away.If anyone has had this same problem let me know.I may start a new thread concerning this with photographers.

123, Three years ago I had carpal tunnel surgery on both hands from 40 years of shooting. Watch out! It does happen. My right thumb hurts most of the time now.

123, The thing about making people look thinner is the old trick of hiding them behind something. I know this sounds a little to simple, but it's more complicated than that.

The waist is the line to look for if someone is overweight. If you hide one side of the waist with flowers and the other side with her arm, then all you see and all the mind will record is the space in between the two objects. (Just move the arm until the outside of the arm is at the outside of the waist, then you see the waist edge as the inside edge of the arm.) Then her waist is as wide the the actual space you see. Now if you hide all her waist then she is as wide as everything. You have to see some waist. Not the outside edge, but in between both arms, between flowers and arm, really between anything. This trick is used to shoot Opra all the time.

Shoot from a high camera angle. Remember the thing you want to accent is where the camera should be. If you want to draw the viewer to the eyes, shoot at eye level. If you want to draw the viewer to the legs, shoot a leg level. So if you don't want the viewer to look at the waist then move the camera to another level. Whatever you are closest to is the focus, so keep the camera high.

The hiding thing works in many ways. Just show the viewer what you want them to see and hide what you don't. also use light to reduce. Don't flat light a heavy person. Use side light. The darker area will recede and the person looks thinner. You are then hiding the shadow side.
