Hi all, am hoping someone might be able to give me some advice smile

I recently got hold of an old Nikkor lens (see topic!); I couldn't resist, seeing as it was offered to me at such a good price!

From my research, mainly KenRockwell.com, I am under the impression that these old Ai lenses should work fine on some of the newer dSLR's, such as the D300... after entering the lens data into the camera as per the manual, I had no problems adjusting the aperture etc. and manual focusing was extremely smooth and simple... however, I cannot get the focus confirmation light/beep in the viewfinder to operate with the lens... is there a way to do this? Using my own judgement, the lens seems to be producing some extremely sharp images, but it would make the process a whole lot quicker if i could get this to work!! Any ideas?!

Thanks smile

mustang--I just tried my old 24mm AI lens with one of my D300 bodies. What I did get was a focus dot when the camera could tell it was in focus. What I didn't get was either of the little triangles indicating which way it was out of focus. What I also didn't get was a lot of "forgiveness" about when the dot appeared. In some scenes it wouldn't appear at all and others I had to very carefully manual focus and it only appeared for a tiny focus window.

Perhaps that's what is happening to you?--David

Hi David, thanks for the input- I will have more of a play with it today and see if i get the same kind of results! When you refer to the focus dot confirming good focus, do you mean the green dot in the bottom left of the view finder next to the metering info? smile

Yes, the green dot. It is the green triangles that do not ever appear.--David
