Howdy!
Posts and threads are rampant on the web, "is the D100 the digital camera to own?" Many emails make their way to me with what I consider a really stupid question. "Will the D100 be better than the D1x or D1H?" This, when a production camera hasn't been made available to anyone, world wide (and as a Nikon reviewer, production models are essential for accurate reviews). Here's my two cents worth.
First, folks keep asking me about the reported 6MP CCD and if I think this is the greatest thing since slice bread. Hey...I use the D1H folks, 2.5MP and I'm quite happy! 6MP doesn't make much difference to me. Will the D100 replace the D1X? Hey...we're talking about Nikon here, you want more you pay more, no way around it.
Lastly and more importantly, a lot of time is being wasted IMHO comparing specs for something not even released yet! There is a BIG reason that Nikon puts that disclaimer "specs can change without notice" because they DO!
I promise that one of the first reviews on the D100 will appear on nikondigital.org and a complete user manual will be on our eBook coming out in July.
Until then, I can't tell you a thing about the D100, sorry!
