You can see more info and links to the press release & eval download on the homepage, but we're very curious what folks think of the $109 upgrade price, since I know many of you have been waiting for the features (like dual-monitor support) since the release of NX 1.

The editing feature set does look awesome, although it doesn't seem like they've upgraded the batch processing very much.

Let us know your thoughts!--David

I've just done a couple photos with it and haven't tried but a couple things. It's a worthwhile improvement over the previous NX and worth my time to figure out the rest of it.

I will be buying it like I did capture. I did not buy NX 1.x as it's was just too lacking. I posted my reasons for that a couple days ago.

I will upgrade. I use CaptureNX everyday for most every NEF image. There is nothing better or faster for processing the Nikon raw file.

There are several training CD's out that help to understand the program. The interface does take some getting use to.

I never used NX until March (had Nikons since 04). Moose Peterson swore by NX during one of his Base Camps so I tried it.

I hated it from the start. That said, I'll download NX2 and see what comes of it.

Jim,
To really understand NX2, you need to get Jason Odell's book and Vincent Verace's DVD about Capture NX2. Look at NX2 with an open mind and forget about Photoshop and then you can learn what all NX2 can do for your photographs. For most of my photography, I use Photo Mechanic, Digital Pro, ViewNX, CaptureNX2, and Qimage.

I agree with David, both books are great. And the software doesn't work like Adobe.

I am getting some crashes with Capture NX2 and with the upgrade of Nikon View NX 1.1.0. I just installed both yesterday and have used each about 4 hours to get some images out.

Word of warning! If you correct and save an NEF file in Capture NX then you cannot batch process the file in View NX. I don't know why, but even the help menu says you can't. I am complaining to Nikon.

Other than that I like the upgrades.

Iīm new to Capture NX and got NX1.3 in April- price $150 + the upgrade price $110 is $260 for NX2. I find the upgrade price is just "crazy".

Workflow now: DPro4- CaptureNX? or LightZone(healing tool)-Qimage

Software is expensive. Look at Photoshop. If the software lets you get the job done better or faster then it's worth it. I have never regretted new software or the price. Sort of like cameras. I have never been a camera guy... more of a people guy. But if a camera does the job better then it pays for itself.

The equipment and software I own, I use everyday because that's my job and that's how I have supported myself and my family for over forty years. If you don't make a living using it, then it's hard to justify unless you're having a good time.

And most of the time you don't really have a choice because you have to keep up. There comes a time when old software doesn't work on new machines. Fortunately old camera always work.

Bill, I know. Have supported my family for 45 years as photographer, but has now retiered. My first Digital Camera was Nikon E3S where a 15mb Card was $600. And I do know about SW prices. What I am complaining about is, that Nikon donīt offer a lower upgrade price for people who just bought the NX1.3. As told I now pay $260 for NX2 and could get it from new for $180.
By the way Iīm still using my Nikon D2H.

Thanks
Kjeld

I'm pretty unhappy about the upgrade policy. I have NX1, but as a Mac user, running Leopard, I couldn't NX at all after my upgrade. I was expecting a fix to allow it to run on Leopard. Frankly at $109 for the upgrade, it either better REALLY sing, or I'm not going to bother.
