Nikon High ISO Test (Raw & JPEG)

by David Cardinal on 11/23/2007

Included are JPEG & NEF files for the D3, D300, D2X and D200. The original unmodified camera images --including the Raw files -- are available by doing a right-click "Save As..." from your browser. (If they want to behave like TIFFs, see our Image Notes). We'll keep them posted here for as long as we have the bandwidth, but this way you can make your own comparison on how the cameras perform at High ISOs. Enjoy!--David

About the Images:

The FALSE information was posted on the D1List that the NEFs linked to the images were actually TIFFs. They are in fact NEFs straight from the camera (although with some IPTC data added for copyright).

The reason you may see them appear to be TIFFs is if your browser/OS doesn't know what to do with NEFs. But if you download them and make sure they are treated as Raw images they indeed are such and will open in the appropriate versions of Camera Raw, Capture NX, etc.

For a "science test" artificial light would be preferred (as the lighting did vary slightly between images as it took time to set up each shot), but for these images are designed for comparing High ISO noise levels in a typical natural lit scene.
